Greatest sporting achievement:
U/23 World Champion 2012, Noosa Triathlon win 2013 and 2014.
Achievements: I have been a New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder since 2007. Prior to this I won four gold and one silver medal in Australian Junior Championship events. Since my induction to the NSWIS I have been able to gain experience and exposure worldwide and continuously improve on my performances.
Favourite Endura product and why:
Chocolate Endura Energy Bars – gets me through those long days in the saddle.
How did you get into your chosen sport?
I was originally a swimmer and did ok in school cross country races through my fitness from swimming. A guy from my swimming club suggested I try a Triathlon at the local club and I never looked back.
How important is diet and sports nutrition supplements to your performance?
In my form of racing diet is pretty important – short course racing is better suited to the lighter athletes. Sports nutrition is important in what I do too. Olympic distance races I have two Endura Gels strapped to my bike which I consume during the race.
Where will we find you when you are not training or competing?
Beach, Café or sleeping.
What is your best training tip?
Keep it specific to what you need to do and listen to your body.
What are your goals for the next year?
Top eight in the World Triathlon Series, another Noosa Triathlon title.
How long would you normally spend training each week?
In season around 25 hours. Off season up to 35 hours.
What is your favourite 'before race' meal?
We race in a variety of places around the world, so I can’t become too superstitious about what I must have the night before. Anything high in carbs is generally good (paste, rice, pizza etc.).
Best nutritional advice?
What you put in is what you get out (a bit cliché, but true!).
How do you stay motivated with training?
Routine. Setting goals. Always expecting more from yourself.
The thing I love the most about being an athlete is...
The competition, challenging yourself and getting to see new places.
What is a common mistake made in your sport?
Not getting your race nutrition right!! Practice, practice, practice!
Toughest experience in your career / What have you learnt from it?
Spending two weeks in hospital in 2013 and then having limited time to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.
What is going through your head the moment before you start a race?
I’m not sure! Plenty of butterflies in the stomach though.
